Clark Condon took top honors in a design charrette, “Bridging the Park,” sponsored by Rice Design Alliance in association with Houston Parks and Recreation Department and the Memorial Park Conservancy. The goal of the charrette was to design a bridge to carry runners and walkers safely across Memorial Drive, a major traffic artery, which runs through the heart of Memorial Park, Houston’s 1500-acre signature park. The design, “A Living Bridge,” considered trail accessibility, conservation, sustainability and historical features of the park. The bridge structure was designed with terracing for plantings, pedestrian lighting, landscape and connection of trails from the ends of the bridge to existing trails.
