Clark Condon collaborated with the City of Galveston to revitalize the Sandhill Crane Soccer Complex, completing the project in 2023. Building on a 2016 master plan, the team worked closely with the city and community through a series of public meetings to confirm current and future usage, refine field layouts, and prioritize improvements for Phase 1 implementation.
The completed complex features five large fields with flexible configurations, three smaller fields, field lighting, expanded parking, pedestrian trails and plazas, spectator areas, a wetland viewing area, a multi-purpose sports court, shade pavilions, and a modern restroom facility. Key challenges successfully addressed included managing drainage in a flat, sea-level area, mitigating the impact of wind and storm surge, accommodating the needs of existing users, and adhering to budget constraints.
The revitalized complex now serves as a premier destination for sports and recreation in Galveston, meeting the needs of the community while enhancing the natural surroundings.
