Cullinan Park
Cullinan Park is a 44-acre community park shaped by dense woods and surrounded by development, and is a naturally rich setting that had outgrown its aging amenities. This revitalization was made possible through a unique and productive partnership between TIRZ 8 and the Houston Parks and Recreation Department (HPARD). Recognized as a high priority in the city’s 2015 Parks Master Plan, the park received construction funding from TIRZ 8 as part of its Multiple Parks Phase 2 initiative. Together, the two organizations breathed new life into the park’s core gathering spaces while carefully preserving the wooded, nature-oriented character that makes it so distinct.
The improvements are centered on the places where the community comes together. A new playground and pavilion introduced modern, durable features built for everyday use, while new concrete pedestrian trails, accessibility upgrades, and fresh site furnishings elevated the visitor experience. A new stormwater detention pond strengthened the park’s infrastructure and helped manage runoff across the site. Throughout construction, thoughtful tree protection and preservation measures safeguarded the mature woodland that gives Cullinan Park its shaded, welcoming feel. Completed in May 2026, the project reflects TIRZ 8’s broader commitment to improving every park within its redevelopment zone. The success at Cullinan Park builds real momentum, inspiring continued investment in the shared outdoor spaces that bring communities together for years to come.
