Clark Condon worked on the new Texas Children’s Hospital project in The Woodlands along with FKP Architects (now CannonDesign). The site includes a medical office building, parking garage and a large detention pond spread across 23 acres. Texas Children’s Hospital is accentuated by playful letters dancing across the landscape in front of the facility. The architect envisioned a nature theme that is seamlessly integrated from the interior to the exterior landscape. A large leaf canopy structure covers the central drop off space offering shade and a whimsical arrival. The paver pattern in the entry mirrors the leaf structure overhead, and playful, colored bollards make for a unique welcome experience. The leaf expression continues through the building to the courtyard space where patients, employees and visitors can find respite among the large shade trees. In the courtyard, a perforated metal screen integrated into a seatwall provides a buffer from the nearby drive. Phase I was completed in 2017.
