St. Luke’s Hospital

The importance of nature in the healing process was a factor in the design of outdoor spaces on the campus of this community hospital and adjoining medical office building. A winding decomposed granite trail with pedestrian bridges encircles the lake on the naturally wooded site. The upper dining terrace with seat walls steps down to the lake and offers a tranquil view. At the lake’s edge, a vine-covered arbor provides a second outdoor area. Treatment rooms look out on a small garden area. This project also included the Aulenbacher Memorial Rose Garden generously donated by Merle Aulenbacher in memory of his wife Carolyn Aulenbacher and daughter Sheryl Aulenbacher Osborne. It is a place for patients and visitors to peacefully reflect. The garden features benches, a fountain, a pavilion, rose beds and lovely angel topiaries surrounding a plaque honoring Carolyn and Sheryl. We included native grasses and perennial planting.
